Lyre is a bloom of green nestled in a brilliant blue sea. Even the rooftops, balconies, fountains, and aqueducts are lined with greenery. Its monuments and state buildings – domed, colossal – were constructed to awe. Up close, the architecture is adorned with delicate ornamentation incorporating carvings and inlays of geometric patterns. Colored glass and iridescent seashells are used plentifully, and detailed paintings of mythological and historical scenes decorate the walls. Wide courtyards, paved with mosaics, act as hubs to shaded streets and corridors. In some places, the architecture is purposely impossible, with doors opening to walls and stairways leading nowhere and illusions created from the interplay of light and shadow. Some say this is to confuse and dazzle malicious spirits – others say it is meant to do the same for humans. |
